From May 25th:
We’re getting ready for our annual camping trip coming up in 2 weeks!
Boy, I sure hope that the daily rains let up by then.

We had a minor injury today when my daughter stepped on a piece of glass (after dressing her wound, she’s doing fine). So, it gave us the perfect opportunity to get our First Aid kit in order.

Coincidentally, I renewed my CPR the other day. and we reviewed first aid as well.

If you’re like me, you grew up having peroxide poured on your wounds, believing that the bubbling and fizzing was going after the bacteria in the wound. But, recent studies indicate that this and alcohol may actually damage the tissue and slow the healing.

Ointments may still help normalize healing and keep scabs from getting infected.

So, as a result, we have simplified our first aid kit.

first aid kit free

*A water bottle with plain mild soapy water.
We’ll keep it in the car with the first aid kit, so we can shake it up and use on wounds. And it’s easily accessible when we’re out and about on hikes, camping, riding bikes, etc.

*Gauze pads

*Flexible first aid tape

* My favorite ointment containing certified pure essential oils.

Or make your own DIY Ouchie Spray/Cream using:
Lavender, Melalaeuca, Helichrysum, and Frankincense in a base of fractionated coconut oil and water.

*My favorite insect repellant – repellant blend + lemongrass = non-toxic and aromatic awesomeness. We also add this to our all-natural sunscreen and cover all of our bases!

*Hand cleansing spray (5-10 drops of protective blend in a small spray bottle and fill with water) for disinfecting our hands before caring for a wound and in our Clean Hands spray that we keep in the car all summer long when we don’t have access to soap and water.

Here’s to wishing you a happy and safe summer!
